Today, the preaching was done about “The Holy Apostle and Evangelist Matthew”. Fr. Joseph Farooq told the faithful how we hear and give respond to the voice of Jesus our Lord and God in our daily life and follow Jesus as Saint Matthew in hearing the voice of Jesus Christ: “Come, follow Me” (Mt. 9: 9) left off from his duties and followed the Saviour. He together with the other apostles he followed Christ and followed the instructions of His Divine Teacher.

Fr. Joseph Farooq preached the faithful about Jesus Christ the real Messiah as the Gospel according to Saint Matthew manifests and proof that Jesus Christ is the REAL MESSIAH and it is very important for the orthodox Christians in Pakistan and Middle East who are suffering and being persecuted to know and follow the real Messiah who is only the way of salvation, hope and life for all of us.

Congratulations to all Orthodox Christians with the feast of St. Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist!

I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the well wishers of ROCOR Mission in Pakistan for their passionate love and holy prayers for the promotion of Russian Orthodox in Pakistan!!

100_0881

After the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Joseph delivered a sermon about the work and sacred responsibilities of the Holy Archangel Michael and the other bodiless Hosts of Heaven. Fr. Joseph told faithful that the Holy Archangel Michael is the head of the entire heavenly host, and explained the icon. Fr. Joseph said that Holy Archangel Michael holding a sword in his right hand depicts that he crushed Lucifer, and the palm branch in his left hand signifies that he is the guardian of the Orthodox faith and a fighter against heresy. The Holy Archangel Michael, one of the highest angels, remains faithful to the Creator. Further, Fr. Joseph told the faithful that we must follow the true traditions of holy Orthodoxy in our daily lives and always remain faithful to the Russian Orthodox Church, because these days holy Orthodoxy is being attacked from all sides by schismatic and heretic forces. We must condemn the forces of the devil, and follow the example of the holy archangel of God Michael and his entire heavenly host, who battle against dark forces.

100_0910

After the sermon the icon of St. Michael the Archangel was placed on the table and time was given to the faithful to light candles and seek help and protection in silence from St. Michael the Archangel for their families and the Orthodox faith.

Joys and blessings of the feast day:

In Pakistan, Christian communities rarely get the chance for celebrations, where they can express their joys and happiness. Christians are facing sufferings and persecutions, so I personally experienced and keenly observed that the feast days celebrated in the Orthodox Church with her unique traditions fill the hearts of people with true joy and blessings of the Heavenly Father.

Fellowship:

The faithful shared the festive lunch at the end of the feast. The celebration of the feast took almost 5 hours. I extend my thanks to Mr. Denny Sellen and his family and Fr.Daniel Ritty who generously sent help for the feast day. Thanks are due to our very dedicated orthodox parishioner Samuel Alexander and his family who joyfully helped me for making all the necessary arrangements for the feast day.

The Peace Conference was held in Sargodha on 30 October 2015 with mutual collaboration of HWPL and PMA. The Representative of Saint Michael the Archangel Orthodox Mission in Pakistan Fr.Joseph Farooq, Roman Catholic Priest Fr. Nasir William and Muslim Scholars spoke about the promotion of peace and human harmony through effective dialogue.

101_0009

Honourable Mr Lee, Chairman HWPL Korea, Respected Mr.Tahir Naveed Ch. Chairman PMA, Distinguished guests and my dear friends.

I greet all of you in the Holy name of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour!!

Today in this peace gathering, with the blessings of my ruling bishop His Eminence Metropolitan Haliron, I am representing the Russian orthodox Mission in Pakistan. It is eminence pleasure for me to share my views to promote peace and human harmony in Pakistan where innocent people are under the direct threats of terrorism.

Dear friends, all the religions in the world are teaching to their followers to live in peace and encouraging them to obtain peace and total human harmony by following the non-violent means and approaches.

The action of killing human beings and aggressive flame of terrorism, violation of civil and political rights and wars are constantly destroying the world peace. Now the time has come to encounter the dark forces who are threatening the “Dove of Peace” As St. John Chrysostom Archbishop of Constantinople and the teacher of church in 4th century says to the Church and I quote,

“Just as those who are deprived of light cannot walk straight, so also those who do not behold the ray of the Holy Scriptures must necessarily sin, since they walk in the deepest darkness”.

Dear Friends through the centuries the Church Fathers, Orthodox Saints, Pious Monks and are the messengers of Gospel, Peace, Tolerance, Perfect Harmony, Humility, Piety, Simplicity and Holiness!! Their message and teaching are universal and approaching the whole human race around the globe. With the blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, the ROCOR Mission in Pakistan is sharing the universal message of love, peace and human unity with all people around us.

101_0010

101_0003

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill the spiritual head of the Russian Orthodox Church in his recent visit to Ukraine speak about peace and harmony and from his speech I quote the words of His Holiness:

“The world, human civilization and generally any human society cannot develop other than in conformity with the law of Love. From Love there stem solidarity, support, harmony in the world”.

The all-merciful God desires happiness for us both in this life and in the life to come. The God of heaven and earth sanctify us with His heavenly blessing to live with all human beings in peace, unity and love without any discrimination on basis of creed, race and caste.

Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ promise us life and in the Gospel according to Saint John chapter 10:10 “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

The effective dialogue and peace gatherings are the best channels and it will help the people of Pakistan to live together in peace and harmony.

My thanks are due to Mr.Tahir Naveed Ch. for organizing this wonderful peace gathering here in Sargodha and he and his team incited a struggle for promoting peace and human harmony in Pakistan. And this is a need of the time!!!

May God bless all the religious leaders, politicians and peacemakers that we must for promote of peace through actions and deeds around the globe!!

Thank you!!!

A DAY WITH VENERABLE FATHER SERAPHIM OF SAROV

June 14, 2015 was the hottest day of the month and the temperature was 48c. It seems early in the morning that the sun has descended on the earth. With the blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Mission in Pakistan organized one day program for the Orthodox Faithful in Pakistan about the holy life of St. Seraphim of Sarov.

207258.b

Despite of the scorching temperature, the people participated in the solemn celebration with real devotion for St. Seraphim of Sarov. Their faces were glowing as the dazzling Light of the Risen Lord has touched their hearts. The name Seraphim means “fiery” or “burning” in Hebrew. It really seems that today our Venerable Father Seraphim was present among us.

Procession:

207259.b

The solemn celebration opened with the procession followed by the festive Divine Liturgy. A prayer of Saint Seraphim of Sarov, translated into the Pakistani native language, was read by Fr. Joseph Farooq; other prayers were also said for the health and many good years of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, for the Orthodox clergy and faithful, and for peace, unity, brotherhood and solidarity throughout the world.

Sermon:

207260.b

After the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Joseph Farooq preached comprehensively the life history and miraculous works of Saint Seraphim of Sarov. Fr. Joseph Farooq told the faithful that at the age of 18, St. Seraphim resolved to become a monk. His mother blessed him with a large copper cross, which he wore over his clothes for the rest of his life. Before he joined the monastic life, the young Seraphim liked to read the Lives of Saints, to go to church, and to pray in seclusion. He was accepted as a novice in the Sarov monastery.

Further he told the faithful that Saint Seraphim of Sarov is one of the greatest Russian ascetics and wonderworkers, with profound spiritual discernment. He was distinguished by a great humility. When being praised by the entire world, he referred to himself as “the poor wretch Seraphim.”

207261.b

Fr. Joseph shared that Saint Seraphim of Sarov was blessed by a vision of angels participating in sermons and singing. During the Liturgy on Great Thursday he had a vision of the Lord Jesus Christ incarnate in human flesh as He was entering the temple together with Angelic Hosts and blessing those in prayer. Venerable Seraphim was so taken by the vision that he could not speak for a long time.

In his sermon Fr. Joseph Farooq instructed the faithful that the ascetic life of Saint Seraphim is the perfect example for the Orthodox faithful to live with devotion, cheerfulness, patience, hard work and obedience in all circumstances. Our Venerable Father Seraphim had a very close association with the Most Holy Mother of God, and therefore he ceaselessly prayed before the icon of the Mother of God (of Tender Feeling). This closeness with the Most Holy Theotokos was so strong that she appeared to him surrounded by indescribable light, accompanied by the Apostles Peter and John the Theologian.

St. Seraphim is known as a wonderworker through whom God worked many miracles of all kinds. He still continues to work miracles in our lives whenever we seek help from him. His miracles are countless, and I am only mentioning two powerful miracles of St. Saraphim of Sarov, which reflect the Glory of God. These two persons, Michael Vasileevich Manturov and Nicholas Alexandrovich Motovilov, were victims of serious sicknesses, and the doctors were unable to cure their diseases. But they were healed by St. Seraphim’s prayers.

Help from our venerable father Seraphim of Sarov:

207265.b 207264.b

After the sermon, people were given time to light their candles that they brought along with them in front of the icon of the St. Saraphim of Sarov. They were instructed to ask for the help from St. Seraphim of Sarov for their problems, any family sickness and for the blessings of their Orthodox faith. They asked for help with complete faith and enthusiasm that their prayers will be heard through the powerful intercessions of St. Seraphim. Some of the faithful expressed their feelings and testimonies of how St. Seraphim brought comfort to their lives. It was a large gathering consisting of Orthodox faithful and those who wish to embrace holy Orthodoxy in the future. There were good number of women and children present. At the end of the solemn celebrations the icons of St. Seraphim of Sarov were distributed among the faithful. All the faithful were very happy as they received the icons.

PASTORAL CARE IN THE MISSION

The community is extremely poor and deprived of basic human rights. In this scenario ROCOR strives to reach out to the unreached and help victims of controversial blasphemy laws, poverty, sexually abused children, vulnerable women and orphans. We always stand by them through thick and thin and the Russian Orthodox Church in Pakistan fight for the minority rights on different forums. Beside this the representative the sole canonical priest Fr. Joseph Farooq is participating in peace conferences and meetings and representing the Russian Orthodox Church for the promotion of peace and human harmony in Pakistan.

Since ROCOR Mission is very new and have scarcity of donations and charity. We trust in Lord Jesus Christ and these worries, problems, antagonist forces and less financial sources will never stop us to carry this mission because our strong faith and hope give us a reason to continue and courage to move ahead.

St. Paul says in His II Epistle to Corinthians Ch: 4:16-17
“For this reason we never become discouraged. Even though our physical being is gradually decaying, yet our spiritual being is renewed day after day. And this small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble”.

St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Mission is caring the spiritual need of the people by celebrating regular Divine Liturgy and orthodox community gets strength by receiving the Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Besides this they are taught holy orthodoxy to strengthen their faith so that they become patient, humble, and tolerant and steadfastness. Fr. Joseph Farooq is preaching the Gospel and holy orthodoxy very diligently going from door to door. The poor and sick are looked after, cared and comforted.

s1_3

Fr.Joseph Farooq is responsible for translating the Orthodox literature into the local native language for the faithful. He is working for the rights of the oppressed Christian minority in Pakistan, writing articles against the discriminatory laws in Pakistan and for the restoration of human rights. He believes that after “the cross we will be partakers in the resurrection”.

Since 31st January 2011 we received warmly 45 families into holy orthodoxy total number of people are 174 people. In the beginning we had a small group, then gradually our strength began to grow and within few years we have +250 orthodox faithful. Despite of the many challenges and trials number of orthodox believers is increasing day by day.

Religious and Social Activities:

  • Regular Celebrating Divine Liturgy
  • Teaching Orthodox Faith to the People in different regions of Pakistan
  • Preaching Gospel / Teaching orthodoxy to non-orthodox
  • Translation of Prayer Books, Book of Need , Divine Liturgy, Life of Saints, History of
  • Orthodox Church, Catechism of the Eastern Orthodox Church and etc.
  • Fellowship and Pastoral Care
  • Orphan Children and Education
  • Awareness about Human Rights
  • Working for Peace and Harmony on different forums
  • Working for the Rights of bonded Labour Christians
  • Working for suffering and persecuted Christians especially women and young girls raped by Muslims and I also work for those Christian young girls who are enforced by the Muslims dominant groups to embrace Islam.

Children in Orthodox Church:

Children are the great asset who is the future of Orthodox Mission in Pakistan. They are the coming generation and the Sacred Scripture teaches to church to care of the children. Therefore it the top priority of our mission is to train and teach them about the holy traditions of orthodox faith. St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Mission in Pakistan is playing a vital role in this ministry.

aaronsergey

We are approaching to those who are hopeless, homeless and victim of bondage labour and have no facility to get basic and skilled education and living in very dangerous and critical situation. We are having Sunday school for them and in our limited sources help them to get education. Since Pakistan has dual education policy that is (1) separate schools and syllabus for rich class (2) separate school and syllabus for poor class. Pakistan ranks second in the global ranking with the highest number of out-of-school children with the figure estimated to be about 25 million, the report said. Pakistan has the lowest youth literacy rate. Only 59 percent females are literate as compared to 79 percent of males in the age group of 15 to 24 years, it added.

St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Mission in Pakistan has a plan to build schools for their better and prosperous future, God willing.

Adult Christian Girls and Women:

4

The adult Christian girls and women in Pakistan have been denied privilege of human right i.e. economic, social and political. They are denied not only the right to education, but also the right to decide matters relating to their marriages and divorce. Often abuses are compounded: poor girls and women are trafficked and subject to forced marriage. The Christian girls are the easy prey of forced marriage and in most of cases the Christian girls are forced to embrace Islam even a married Christian women are victim of Islamic Marriage Act.

There are number of cases that Christian girls and women are raped and forced to have sex at their work places, especially who are working in the houses of rich Muslim land lords and businessmen. Nearly 2,000 women and girls from various minority sects were forcibly converted to Islam through rape, torture and kidnappings, and 161 people were charged with blasphemy in 2011, according to a report. The reports by the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC) revealed that minorities made up to three to four percent of the country’s population, but remain sidelined in state policies. According to the Daily Times, in 2011, extremists killed Governor Salmaan Taseer and federal minorities minister Shahbaz Bhatti, as both advocated rights for minorities by calling for amendments in the country’s controversial blasphemy law. The report also revealed that there was rampant violence against children and showed that a total of 2,303 instances of sexual abuse were recorded from various parts of the country.

We are thankful to God that St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Mission in Pakistan is conducting meetings, organizing different awareness programs for them. We are also working to uplift their living standard. And for these purposes we wish to launch Stitching Schools, income generating projects and art and craft courses etc.

OUR RIGHTEOUS FATHER JOHN OF KRONSTADT, LOVED BY PAKISTANI ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS

Saint Sergius of Radonezh Orthodox Church Sargodha Pakistan

219360.p

With the blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Mission in Pakistan and the parishioners of Saint Sergius of Radonezh Orthodox Church Sargodha Pakistan on November 01, 2015, celebrated the feast of our righteous father John of Kronstadt.

Righteous father John had the greatest gift of prayer, and so the solemn celebrations were begun with prayers to Saint John of Kronstadt. The prayers were taken from the spiritual diary of Saint John of Kronstadt, My Life in Christ. The following prayers were translated by Fr. Joseph Farooq and recited along with the faithful:

  • A Preparation for Confession
  • Prayer for the granting of prayer consolation

Other prayers were also said for the health and many good years of His Holiness Patriarch Kyrill of Moscow and all Russia, and His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.

Divine Liturgy:

After this prayerful session the Divine Liturgy was celebrated for the Orthodox faithful in Pakistan. We commemorated the dead who have lost their precious lives in the Egypt plane crash on October 31. The sudden crash of the Russian airline in Egypt on Saturday with 224 people on board killed, including children, May God receive their souls into His heavenly kingdom, forgiving them all their sins for His love for mankind. May the Divine Mercy of our Lord and God comfort the grieved families. May their Memory be eternal!

Sermon:

After the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Joseph Farooq preached to the faithful about the life and miracles of St. John of Kronstadt. The following key points were preached in the sermon: The Life of Saint John of Kronstadt and his services in the St. Andrew Cathedral in the city of Kronstadt, which is near St. Petersburg.

Miracles of John of Kronstadt:

Fr. Joseph Farooq told the faithful that there were many miracles performed by St. John of Kronstadt, especially the healing of the sick, and these miracles were witnessed by thousands of individuals around the world. The gift of miracle-working made St. John renowned far beyond the boundaries of Russia. Thousands of people from all ends of Russia daily arrived in Kronstadt, seeking help from St. John; he received an even greater number of letters and telegrams. Further Fr. Joseph Farooq told the Orthodox faithful in Pakistan that, “Our great wonderworker, righteous father John of Kronstadt filled the whole world with his miracles, like Saint Nicholas.

219363.p

Fr. Joseph Farooq also preached about the spiritual Diary of Saint John of Kronstadt, My Life in Christ, where he wrote of his wonderful spiritual experiences and his genuine and true love for Christ. In this spiritual document, St. John of Kronstadt taught all Christians that they must fight with the evil forces of the world in order to reach the heavenly homeland. He also taught the Christians of the present day about Christian values and practical aspects to attain the perfection and purity of the human soul by reading the Sacred Scriptures. As St. John writes in his spiritual Dairy:

From the first days of my high service to the Church, I began reading the Sacred Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, drawing from them all that is edifying for myself as a human being in general, and as a priest in particular.

St. John was very true to the Faith and the Orthodox Church, and teaches us to remain faithful to Orthodox Church, the only source of salvation. He also teaches us the perfect example of prayer, fasting, piety, almsgiving, spiritual labor, and abstinence.

Love for the poor, the sick, and the orphaned: Our righteous father John of Kronstadt was loved by rich and poor, by nobleman and beggar. Throughout his earthly life he helped the poor and orphaned, and we learn that St. John went daily among the poor and the destitute of Kronstadt, spoke with them, comforted them, looked after the sick, and helped them financially according to his resources. Quite often the young priest St. John came home without his overcoat or boots, having given them away to the poor.

Spiritual Lesson for Orthodox Christians in Pakistan:

Dear brothers and sisters, today our righteous father John of Kronstadt, as a spiritual counselor, comforter, reviver, and spiritual teacher, teaches the whole world:

The power of daily prayer.

  • That we need the Lord and we need His grace.
  • Trueness to the faith and the Orthodox Church.
  • To preach truth, denouncing lies.
  • To care for the sick, poor and needy around us.

Help from our righteous father John of Kronstadt:

219362.p

After the sermon, people were given time to light the candles that they brought along with them in front of the icon of the righteous Father John of Kronstadt. They were instructed to ask for the help from St. John of Kronstadt. The beauty of this session was that while lighting the candles the translated prayers of Saint John of Kronstadt were recited very softly by keeping the spiritual environment of the Orthodox faith and holy traditions. Each family was given an icon of St. John of Kronstadt as a blessing.

Humble Request for the help in the mission:

With blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, I humbly request you to support the mission’s work in Pakistan.
