Teaching on “Great Lent and Holy Traditions of the Eastern Orthodox Church” at Saint Matrona of Moscow Adult Education Center for Women in Pakistan
On the fourth Sunday of Great Lent (Sunday March 26, 2017) with the blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan HILARION, Archbishop of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, the parishioners of Saint Sergius of Radonezh Orthodox Church Sargodha Pakistan participated in the Divine Liturgy at Saint Matorna of Moscow Adult Education Center.
This Sunday after the Divine Liturgy Fr. Joseph Farooq preached to faithful about “The Great Lent and Holy Traditions of the Eastern Orthodox Church. of the Russian Orthodox Church” In his sermon Fr. Joseph described the faithful that fasting is very important for orthodox Christians and according to the holy traditions the orthodox faithful observe fast on Wednesday and Friday throughout the year. Further he mentioned that we the orthodox Christians fellow fasting before Christmas, “The fast of the Nativity” and also observe fasting before “The Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God”.
Fr. Joseph told the faithful that during the Great and Holy Lent the Church prepares and teaches the Orthodox Faithful for strict fasting, repentance, abstinence and helps the Faithful to focus their life on the commemoration of the Crucifixion during Holy Week and spiritual preparation for Bright Pascha!! (This means “Passover” and is commonly called Easter).
