First Sunday of Great Lent – Triumph of Orthodoxy!

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan HILARION, Archbishop of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, on Sunday Marc 20, 2016, Divine Liturgy is celebrated for the Pakistani Orthodox Christians.

According to sacred traditions of the Eastern Orthodox Church and teaching of the Church Fathers each Sunday of the Great Lent has special theme. On the first Sunday of the Great Lent Fr.Joseph Farooq preached about the place and veneration of Holy ICONS in the Orthodox Churches. He explained the orthodox teaching about Holy Icons as defined at the Seventh Ecumenical Council of 787 by the Holy Fathers. The Orthodox Christians on the Sunday of Orthodoxy commemorates the “restoration” of Holy Icons in the churches and to their use in Orthodox worship. Further Fr. Joseph Farooq told the faithful that Holy Icons are venerated by burning lamps and candles in front of them, by the use of incense and by kissing. The Holy Icons, the pictures of Christ, the Mother of God, and the Saints, which were kept and venerated both in churches and in private homes.
